Boatman Training
Whether you have just finished school or already have experience in inland shipping, this programme is a gateway to a professional maritime career where no two days are the same.
As a Boatman, you will provide essential nautical services. Your duties range from mooring and unmooring seagoing vessels to assisting with incidents in the port, as well as crew transfers and water deliveries in and around the Port of Terneuzen. The work takes place both on board and ashore. We operate around the clock, so you will work in shifts and return home after each shift.
You will attend the Scheepvaart & Transport College for the theoretical component of the level‑3 Boatman Training. Depending on your certificates and diplomas, the required subjects and possible exemptions will be determined. After three years, your practical skills should be sufficiently developed to take the practical exam. Once you pass both the practical and theoretical exams, you earn the official Boatman diploma.
Before a trainee can officially call themselves a Boatman, they undergo an intensive period of training, inspections and assessments, all of which contribute to safety and quality in the port.
